The Tuskegee
Syphilis Experiment
The U.S. government’s 40-year experiment
on black men with syphilis
by Borgna Brunner
“The United States government did something that was wrong—deeply, profoundly, morally wrong. It was an outrage to our commitment to integrity and equality for all our citizens… clearly racist.”
—President Clinton’s apology for the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment to the eight remaining survivors, May 16, 1997
Why does no one speaking on this atrocity ever, ever, ever talk about what was learned by experimenters from this experiment? Is it “classified”? Does it somehow relate to the Aids epidemic or the ongoing Flu epidemics? Not once have I ever read what the purpose of the experiment was…..and I find that quite strange. Without an explanation of why it was done and what was learned from the experiment, all apologies from the experimenter and all outrage from observers is insincere and emotionally immature; the lack of the reasons and the lack of results, make both the apologies and the outrage function only as parts of insincere smokescreens.
